 Community Open Studio

This two-day intensive workshop guides intermediate ceramic artists through the process of creating
composite wheel-thrown forms using sound techniques and refining them using torching, trimming, and
structured geometric surface mapping techniques. Students will develop precision, control, and
conceptual planning skills while producing advanced multi-part vessels ready for later firing. FRIDAY EVENING PRESENTATION + 2 FULL DAYS WORKSHOP 11-5PM

This hands-on, process-oriented class is for people interested in making large-scale work on the potter’s wheel. In addition to healthy hand and body postures for moving clay, we will cover making pots in sections and the coil and paddle method. Our focus will be on using the best techniques for students’ design ideas. There will be both group demonstrations and individual instruction. Basic pottery skills are required, but our technique allows building work without undue strain on the body - strength is not a requirement! The workshop is conducive to conversation and discussion of pottery and is highly community-oriented. 4 FULL DAY WORKSHOP 10-5PM

Throwing with Intention + Finishing with Finesse:

A Workshop with Danny Meisinger

In a very cold January, I traveled to Danny Meisinger’s studio in Kansas to immerse myself in Danny’s studio practice. To learn from Danny, all one must do is watch the way he moves his hands - the clay comes alive with each gesture, and the intention of each movement is evident in the outcome. The gentle curve of a spout, the grace of the negative space between vessel and handle - understanding how to see, the patience of practice, and knowing that subtle refinement is what elevates a form, is the takeaway from learning with Danny. Whether you’re looking to make a masterfully balanced teabowl, a mug with just the right handle, or a pitcher that pours well and seems to flow in and of itself - this is the workshop for you.
